I've asked this other places and don't seem to get any answers, but I figure Tom's always gets me an answer!

I need a HDD benchmarking utility for Linux. Something that tells read/write speeds and access time. Preferably with some sort of GUI and a graph but that's not a deal breaker. I'd also like something that doesn't take 45 mins of manual reading to find out how to run the test.

Any suggestions?

There is two packages that come to mind. Look at iostat and vmstat either one should give you what you are looking for.

Well bonnie is the first that comes to mind, its the most often used and simple to operate. There are two versions: bonnie and bonnie++, the latter offers more tests.

Some good tests are raidtest, rawio, blogbench, postal, iozone, iometer and others. You need to understand the difference between MB/s and IOps in order to understand its output.
