What does it mean when a disc is write protected

I'm trying to copy some cell phone mini clips, that are saved in a zip folder on mymy Dell 2008 inspiron 1525 laptop, onto a memorex DVD-R disc but it states disc is write protected. I am a grandmother trying to view the birth of my grandson on her 50" TV via the ole fashion way...a disc![:)]( ":)")

using Windows Vista Home Basic 2007Unzip the folder to a folder on your hard drive, and view from the new folder.
