duel bfg 8800 gtx oc SLI
x-fi extreme gamer fatality
haugpauge tv tuner (x1 card)
6 fan, fan controller
corsair 1000w power supply
corsair 4GB ram
the problem i'm having now is when i connect in my tv tuner, it makes a high-pitched sound on shutdown of the computer... the same thing that was happening to me with my video cards until i switched some of the power connectors...that is why i think my problem is still power related...
The way i have my system setup now is this...
780i Motherboard
- 8 pin (CPU) powered with modular cable, connected to 12v2 on PSU
- 24 pin powered with built in power connector from PSU
8800 gtx card one
- in top (closest to cpu) pci-e slot, powered with two 6 - 8 pin modular connectors, and connected to the 12v1 PSU spots
8800 gtx card two
- in bottom slot pci-e, powered with two 6 - 8 pin built-in connectors from the PSU
2 Sata harddrives connected to PSU with modular cords
1 dvd rom drive sata connected with modular cords
I'm not sure if the rest needs to me mentioned but i have the follwoing getting power from motherboard...
Xtreme Gamer Fatality sound card connected to PCI slot
4 GB ram (4 x 1GB)
4 USB 2.0 ports
one 6 fan, fan conntroller (120mm)
i think that's it...
So is my system setup probally to handle power needs etc? why is my card still giving me problems, liek my GPU's used to until i switched?
1000watt psu will handle anything, no exceptions. For your system, it's a pretty big overkill.
I believe the high pitched sound is a low power warning. So you switched connectors and it helped? That would indicate something wrong with the psu. I thought Cosiar is supposed to be a good brand for psu, as many a fanboy praised it to no end. Strange. Oh well, anything can be defective, if you're unlucky enough.
This is common among some brands of video and tuner cards and it not a sign of a bad PSU. They power off slowly and emit a squeal which is an indicator of low power.
