What's the benefit of single platter?
Lower heat and power consumption mainly. Naturally they'll have higher density platter as well which can attain slightly more sustained transfer rate (only useful for largefile moving, no benefit to typically used random read/write by OS+app)

This review contains all the spec. of commonly seen 1TB drives, including WD1001FALS and WD10EADS I believe.

How much faster will it be when moving large files with single platter HDD? Will it be noticeable? Which HDD would you choose if you are getting one? Thanks!

Will it be noticeable?
Nope, unless it's something like >8GB (HD edits mainly) then probably over 10s difference.
Spindle speed is more useful for desktop usage patterns. But all in all they're still mechanical HDD which are more or less the same speed, perception wise.

Nowadays for HDD we're more interested in $/GB and aftermarket service within warranty period.

e.g. ~80MB/s vs. 90MB/s at most for >512MB files. This is actual transfer rate not useless synthetic raw benchmarks like HDTune

They are three platter drives. Because the newest 1.5 TB and 2TB drives have three and four 500 GB platters, I suspect that by next year, we will see 500 GB single platter drives. Currently, the 500 GB drives have two 250 GB platters. That's why the higher density of a two platter 640 GB drive is a little faster.

Hey.. I wanna pick up a 1TB hard disk .. to store my music and to use it for play back.. which one would be better?..

SEAGATE 1000GB 3.5" HDD 7200RPM 32MB Cache (ST-31000333AS)

WESTERN DIGITAL 1000GB 3.5" HDD 7200RPM 32MB Cache (WD10EADS)

Which one has better security for data.. and longer life?.. becuase it will take time to fill up and i dont want any music to go.. :) .. and faster to access the music at a party?
