Just wondering how much you guys like the new THF update.

I would personally have the older format back. This is mainly because...

1. Latest News/Reviews section is just distracting and takes too much screen space.

2. The Forum topics don't rotate on the main Toms page.

What I like about the update is...

1. The new quick access to the bookmarks, find, etc.

i personally like the old format better just because i think i was so used to it. the new format will take time to adjust to, but i think i'll like it the same nonetheless. although, the forum topics don't scroll like you mention, i miss that!
April 16, 2008 8:16:58 PM

The whole 1 to 10 format is flawed since I can only choose up to 5.

Anything different takes some getting used to. But I do feel like information is easier to find.

I Like it...
again as everyone else stated no scrolling forum topic.
it is nice that they now have a post count beside it though..

I like the way it was a few years ago though...
layout didn't matter... content does... and we are lacking good content
April 16, 2008 8:26:11 PM

I want to see more headlines, and more forum topics - the number of them should not have changed. lots of wasted space now.
April 16, 2008 8:26:55 PM

I'd like the new format if it had more news articles and threads on the right side. They seemed to have reduced that or done something with it.

I usually check Toms for the forums/news a few times a day since the articles only get updated once a day it seems.

+1 on that. There were minor issues with the scrolling with FireFox 2, but I have been using FireFox 3 for some time now and it was working flawlessly. :(
April 16, 2008 8:29:11 PM

that it weird.. I didn't have a problem with firefox 2, however occasionally with ver 3 beta 5, it wouldn't load them all and had to refresh page to get them all to load

The problem I had on both my installations was the behavior on "mouseOver" and "mouseMove" (sorry for the programming references). The topics would still scroll when the cursor was "between" 2 topic titles and/or would scroll faster when moving.

Gave it a 2, As others sated, I liked the scrolling forum topics.
April 16, 2008 8:37:23 PM

oh yeah I had the same issue even with the newest beta

I don't mind the Forum topics not scrolling, but as others have suggested, there ought to be a lot more of them showing. There seems to be plenty of space.
April 16, 2008 8:46:38 PM

Its fine, but bring back the SCROLLING FORUMS.

Same thing here. I get much fewer topics to choose from now, and I hate it. Scroll them. Actually, I didn't particularly like them scrolling automatically. Can we have a list showing 10 topics and containing 100, with a scrollbar?

Apart from that it looks OK, so far.

Edit: I think private posts should be counted too. Mine at least look pretty much the same as the public ones, so why not. Too bad that hasn't been fixed...

+++++1 Bring back the scrolling forumns :>

Overall, I think I will like the update.
It will take some getting used to, but I think I will like it.

I need the scrolling forums. I said NEED.

If that, i mean when that, gets fixed the update will not have been that bad.
April 16, 2008 8:56:49 PM

Scrolling forums. NOW.
April 16, 2008 9:04:04 PM

yep, missing scrolling forums is a biggie. gave it a three, but i liked the format BEFORE the last one :p

bring that back
April 16, 2008 9:09:56 PM

Is it me or the option of choosing a particular hardware in the "Charts" not available anymore ... earlier one could choose a couple of items and compare their performance (indicated by BLUE bar, rest all RED) for a particular chosen benchmark... made matters SO much easier!

And scrolling forums!! Come back!!

hey,

you can actually drag and drop the items to put them next to each other
April 16, 2008 9:27:36 PM

^ ...Ummmmnnn but still the earlier style was better :(
April 16, 2008 9:35:57 PM

the new format sucks, the coloring is distracting, and there is no centralized news section. Who ever designed this new format needs to go retake his Art 1a course.
April 16, 2008 9:54:31 PM

I dislike that the "Latest News" headlines are just long enough to wrap to two lines each -- thus halving the number that can be seen at once. Edit them babies down!

lol I hate it and I still can't see the polls results here in the forums. argh
April 16, 2008 10:34:49 PM

Well I came back the US TH because my UK version turned into this ****, the charts are god awful (can't compare cards and it's harder to differentiate between them), and no scrolling forum posts, and the things I want don't show up without having to scroll down.

Was very very close to deleting TH off my favourites, but lucky for them they are the only website I know with a decent list of chart benchmarks...

This new layout blows... like a hair dryer.

Agreed! Such a waste of screen space.

i voted in thepoll and it did not bring me back to this thread automatically like it used to! so it needs to be fixed.

"fix it untill it's broken"
April 17, 2008 12:35:00 AM

Guy was offended by the use of the word "gay" in slang meaning. It was understandable, but shouldn't have been a public post.. :sarcastic:
April 17, 2008 12:56:44 AM

I like it more than the older format.

It takes advantage of 1920 x 1200 resolution. Before there was a lot of wasted space.
April 17, 2008 12:59:16 AM

The new layout is better, IMO. Not by all that much, tho...

I'm mystified why there still isn't a previous/next thread link somewhere. It's annoying to have to go to the main page of each forum/subforum in order to go from one thread to the next.

And what's up with the news on the right?? "Microsoft preps 12 Patches for February"!?!?!? Ummmm... It's April, guys...

I fear change, so change it back!
April 17, 2008 1:57:32 AM

I don't mind the new format, as stated by another poster I'll probally get used to it. I however would like the scrolling forum on the main page back or at least 10 forum topics posted.
April 17, 2008 3:42:25 AM

Hea, Who broke Toms web page?
You better fix it quick before Tom finds out what you did.
April 17, 2008 4:18:19 AM

Tom doesn't care what they did. He took the money and ran years ago. I agree with the above. Toms totally killed my reason to visit the main page. Less news items and no scrolling forums. Now Toms and Anand are the same. except that Anand has better articles and better news stories. Looks like toms will be visited less often unless the bring back the scrolling forums.
April 17, 2008 1:25:54 PM

"give me scolling forums or give me death"!

well...........it worked in the 1700s! LOL
April 17, 2008 6:37:37 PM

I have been visiting Tom's Hardware for years, and after looking at the new format, my opinion is that they "fixed something that wasn't broken". I do not like the new format for many of the above-mentioned reasons. I am especially unhappy with the excessive use of light blue text, which damn near disappears on my laptop's LC display. It may be artsy and cool, but I would rather have something more practical. Looks like they are going for form over substance, a big mistake IMO.

I will probably spend more time at other websites where I can actually see what's on the screen.
