Windows explorer exe.crashes vista 64

Hello,
i have wondows vista 64 and windows explorer exe.crashes. when i open a folder like music or documents the screen freezes. then a message comes up. explorer exe has stopped working and must close. then all open windows close and icons disapear then icons only come back. could someone please help.

thank you for your help. i cleaned a lot of gunk off of my computer with little difference. but when i took off a game site tool bar it's a lot better. still runs slow but better. i need to backup some stuff then a full reinstall thank you again
