Can a PCIe 2.0 work on PCIe x16 Slot

Hi about to buy a new video card but im not so sure if a PCIe2.0 can work on a PCIe x16 slot. I wanna try out the new Radeon HD 3870 X2 but just asking before i even try in buying.

it can, the 3870X2 isnt PCI2.0 anyway, its 1.1 so no need to worry its completely comaptible.
