hello all.

i have a system that had a bad hard drive replaced it and installed vista for the first time. ive had problems ever since and have checked all my connections.

i have eventually replaced the motherboard with a new evga 680i motherboard, i rmad my memory so i have new motherboard new ram, new 8800gt video card. the only thing i have old is my dvd drive , corsair 550 power supply.

im still having some problems, for example if i go to start, all programs, acessories, instead of it instantly showing the programs under acessories they pop or fade in one at a time, as if the system is lagging. occassionally the system will just freeze up, no error code will happen no blue screen just the constant vista busy circle thing for a mouse pointer and nothing will work not even task manager.

today i installed nvidia monitor, to check my temps and that thing only shows me 3/4 of what im used to seeing and i cant even see the tab to open up the temperature panel. (i fixed this reverting to normal dpi and temps are excellent, system has 6 fans)

Strange thing is my games work fine, i play coh, bf2, rainbow six, nwn2, all of them without a single problem or crash.

btw i have a brand new clean install on vista on a new hard drive i have no clue what my problem is, my friend has the same system exact with vista and his vista is snappy. and he doesnt get crashes.

my processor is a e6600 about a year and a half old, how can i tell if this needs replaced, i would replace it but im kinda so bummed im stil having problems im about ready to switch to a console for my gaming becuse the money i put into this system and still having problems is crap. i dont want to invest in say a quad core and then still have hte same dam problems.

also nvida monitor shows my disk usage at 100 percent for about the first three minutes after boot up?

please help!

Alright....

First thing: Post all computer hardware being used in a neat and detailed list.

Second thing: Post which bios you are using. The bios version will be shown when you first boot up the computer.

What is the rest of your system?

Make sure that you have all driver and operating system updates (Note that you may have to locate and install SP1 manually). Also, after the whole system is updated make sure that you defrag the system. Do you have a creative sound card? If so then I would recommend the daniel_k modded drivers as they alleviate alot of problems. Also are you running mcafee or norton anti virus. Both have a very large footstep and I would recommend switching it out for AVG anti virus.

You may want to go into your msconfig file and change your bootup by stopping alot of the processes that startup automatically. Did you set your memory voltage/timings manually in the bios? You may also want to disable Intel Speedstep. I personally do not like that feature as I feel is slows down my system for general use.

Its usually the little things that may cause a system to act like this. Make sure to check every last detail and either try to remedy it yourself or let us know so that we can possibly suggest something to do. Vista is a tricky little guy! lol

Best,

Have you updated the bios? and also are your voltage and timings set manually in the bios. If all of this is done then you may want to scan through the OS and see if anything is overly taxing that you can stop or get rid of. If none of that solves the problem then we may need to look to hardware testing such as memtest86+. What are your scores on vista performance rating. JC if maybe the OS is considering something as slow or not.

Well at this point I would probably start testing hardware. What I would do is run memtest86+ and probably test the system for stability with orthos or something, and maybe run 3Dmark06 a few times. If everything checks out man then I am under the impression that it is just something to do with vista that I am unaware of as I do not use it. I have a dual boot, but recently uninstalled vista and replaced it with Ubuntu Linux. Maybe someone else with a better idea of the problem will show up.

Is all of the RAM recognized in the bios?

If all of your hardware checks out in the bios and RAM checks out in memtest....there is a strong chance of it being Vista. Which distribution of Vista are you using?
