Ok here it is guys, i have an e8400 @ 4.0 ghz (9*445) up and running stably on Small FFTs for 5 hours now. I'm going to leave it like that for a 7 or 8 hours more to see if it can run more than 12 hours.

Basically here it is, it's a Dell XPS 630i with the proprietary Dell Motherboard, which has an 650i SLI chipset. A new Bios revision came out and i told myself i would push it a bit more. To my surprise i was able to push a FSB of 445 (1780 QDR). I am very pleased right now, since i've been running this machine for more than 6 months on @3.6.

Ok, so now i have FSB 445 and my 2x2GB Ballistix at 1:1 Ration (890 mhz, Cas 5 for the moment, but i'm going to take a look at Cas 4 as soon as the system is stable as it is..). My temps are 31-29 at idle and the max i got is 60-60 at Full Load.

First of all i have to say that my chip is NOT the best regarding voltages it needs to run stably, e8400 C0 and it needed 1.312 to stay stable at 3.6. So i have the Vcore at 1.476 at idle and 1.440 at Full load...Huge Vdroop on this MB!!.

First QUESTION. Since my temps are comfortable, is this voltage to high or just on the limit? should i look into water cooling.

Second QUESTION. My northbridge wont run more than FSB 400 unless i give it 1.5 V of juice. Ok before you say anything, this is an Nvidia chipset and i read quite a bit about it and it's supposedly OK, depending on the chip you have, some might get unstable at 1.5, some are more than willing to take it there. So here is my question, what program do i use to monitor Northbridge Temps?

Thanks in advance and i have to say i'm very excited with this new OC.!!

Grats! on a nice OC.

My EVGA 650i won't go past 425bus speed. Your 445 is really pushing it. Temps are fine, granted if they are using TJ Max of 100C.

VCore is a bit high. Absolute max from Intel says, 1.45v, after that it could damage your processor and may not perform well even when returned to stock.

Choice is really yours, some folks say that there is no degradation at all, while I've read some reports of folks who have chips die after just a few hi vcore runs.

Maybe i should lower that to 3.8 and lower the Vcore, but i LOVE the 4.0 GHZ...how it sounds.. lolll

Ive got the ASRock 1600Penryn board, using a 650iSLI chipset. Exact same settings, exception being that I have an E0 E8400, so Im running 4.0 at 1.25V (coincidentaly its VID)

I got an aftermarket cooler for the chipset, id like to try and push it harder, but when I feed it the next higher voltage (1.6 something I think) it'll only run about 45 sec before shutting down. At the 1.5 setting, it gets VERY hot (Like hot enuf to burn if you touch the heatsink)

Scary, i think i'm going to settle down to 3.6 after all. With 1.4 V for NB. I think 4 ghz was nice for benchmarking but my CPU needs so much voltage, i just don't feel comfortable running 24/7 with that. 3.6 still needs 1.3 for me...

Nice job
Had they gotten that machine to market a year earlier I would have gotten one, instead I built my own ( same specs in a reverse ATX case ).
Had a CO, the voltage needed for 4.0 (1.42v) was scary for me as well, but I got an EO for a new build and swapped it.

Oops, forgot to mention 1.34v/ 1.56 NB

flyin15sec, when I was working on my OC, I recall reading about 'FSB holes' and as I recall there was one near 425. You might try skipping up to like 435-440 and see what happens.

Yeah, I know about FSB holes. The problem is I am using a E2180 in that system. I downclock to 6x cpu multi to just see, but never really tried to get higher.
After I got some instability at 425. It won't matter much now, It is slated to be sold to a friend, which should be picking it up some time this week.
