hey guys after getting some advice ppl convinced me to get a Q6600 and 4gb ddr2-800 ram instead of q9300 and 4gb ddr2-1066 ram

the specs for the rig for now are:
q6600
gskill 4gb ddr2-800
seagate 7200.11 500gb
antec sonata iii case
samsung dvdrw
video card waiting for gt200 and 4800s benchmarks

the mobo i had chosen before was Gigabyte GA-EP35-DS3L or Gigabyte GA-EP35-DS3R but since i am not getting a penryn or ddr2-1066 ram is it still worth it?

If i replace the Gigabyte GA-EP35-DS3L ($90) or DS3R ($130) with one of these (all are 650i)
Asus P5N-E SLI ($125)
ECS NF650ISLIT-A ($91)
XFX Nforce 650I Ultra ($112)
i can save $105 as i do will not need hdd or dvdrw since 650i support 4pata drives (which i currently have) and get a better video card or monitor

with the p35 i will only be able to reuse 2 hdds
with the 650i i can reuse 3 hdds n dvdrw

is there any reason to go with the p35 over the 650i?

thanks n sorry for being kinda long

ps if you know of any other mobo that supports 4 pata drives let me know. i know the intel 975x did but are hard to find and expensive

Just get a mobo that supports penryn just incase you plan to upgrade the cpu in the future, are you planning to have sli? If not you don't need a sli capable board. Overclocking?

im gonna keep this for a while so if i plan to upgrade ill skip penryn and go to nehleam or watevers after. I plan to oc the q6600 to 3.2 if i get the g0. i plan on running a single video card only.

my main concern is that with the p35 i will only be able to reuse 2 hdds and with the 650i i can reuse 3 hdds n dvdrw thus saving $100 to addon for videocard or monitor.

i would like to know if the p35 has any advantage over the 650i and if you could recommend any mobo that supports 4 pata drives.

The p35 has better overclocking ability compared to the 650i. You could also get the pata to sata converter.

The abit IP35 pro does good with quads and G.Skill ram.

punctuation aside im not gonna be saving $105 on the mobo but if i go with a 650i chipset i will not have to buy a hdd $80 and dvdrw $25 which save me $105.

What does the 650i chipset have to do with not buying a hdd and dvdrw? If they are good you can probably use them with whatever you get, you'll have to do a fresh install with a new mobo either way. The dvdrw won't know the difference.

i currently have 3hdd (1-OS n apps, 2-storage) and dvdrw all pata
if i get a p35 board i can only use 2 pata drives and would use 2hdd (storage) so i would buy a hdd n dvdrw (sata) whereas with the 650i boards i can use my 3hdd and dvdrw

dude just get ether a 780i or a 680i. and please dont get the sonata case. i have it and the only thing good about it is the psu. get like the antec 300 and i think you will be much happier.
