My main disk drive does not pass short self-testl (read failure). Is there any software that will recover some part of the data from that drive? Drive is a Seagate ST3250823AS with 16 heads, so I assume that perhaps one of the 16 is dead (sudden death - running fine with no signs of trouble for 3 years, completely dead without warning). PC Doctor gives error code HD5210-2W.

16 Heads is only a logical statement, there is only one head per disk surface, read failure, likely snafued hdd,I do not think that any software can get past a read failure..:(

open it up and make sure the platters spin and the heads move then blow it out with a can of air. Works about half the time, if it does work pull all the data off it and trash it it's only a temp fix.
