Hi, thanks alot for looking, been searching around for a while now and I've almost decided to go wtih an 8800GT 512mb.
Would this go alright with
AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ 2.20ghz
2GB Ram (two different ram brands... should I get twin ram in the future?)
At the moment I have 7600GS 256mb.
Anything else I should be worried about?
I think power supply is pretty average from memory...
So, would an 8800GT 512mb go good with these specs, and if so.... which of these is better?

Interesting that the Asus is cheapest, given that they usually overcharge. Here in Australia, going price for a generic 512MB 8800GT is around $230, so compare that to whatever the exchange rate is (I think your dollar is about level, right?).
You system is adequate, but make sure your power supply has at least 25ish amps on the +12V rail.
the 2 slot cooler card is the best it will give you more overclockability.but the price will go up as you can see in your OP.and the price difference are likely get you a 8800GTS which is the next level up.
the memory is fine if they are different brand since the bios will make them run at the same speed and timing.but just make sure their spec is the same since if you overclock then 1 may perform better then the other since hindering performance.brand is not that important but quality is!
i do believe that your CPU will be the main bottleneck of your system.try overclock it to the max somewhere near 2.9ghz if you got some decent cooling.
are you looking to change platform from AMD to Intel???Intel have a price cut on their processor by the way.better value for money.
dince your cpu isnt a very "powerfu;" one so it doesnt suck that much power.i guess you might get away with your PSU.but if its an quad core intel and OC then you need new PSU as well.
Yeah I'm going to get a new PSU aswell, because it says you need atleast 24amps on the 12V, and I reeaaaly don't want to fry anything in my pc, so I guess forking out another $50 will be worth it.
