Hi, thanks alot for looking, been searching around for a while now and I've almost decided to go wtih an 8800GT 512mb.

Would this go alright with
AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ 2.20ghz
2GB Ram (two different ram brands... should I get twin ram in the future?)
At the moment I have 7600GS 256mb.

Anything else I should be worried about?
I think power supply is pretty average from memory...

So, would an 8800GT 512mb go good with these specs, and if so.... which of these is better?

nVidia 8800GT 512MB PCI-E DVI-I HDTV Asustek graphics card - $286.88NZD
NVidia GEFORCE 8800GT 512MB PCIE HDCP Dual output - $291.83NZD
Eagel Nvidia Geforce 8800GT 512MB 256Bit GDDR3 DVI PCI-E Specifications Bus interface PCI Express 2.0 - $294.00NZD
Eagle 8800GT G92/D8P 512MB PCI-Ex16 HDCP 2xDual-DVI - $295.00NZD
Sparkle Geforce 8800GT 512MB PCI-E DDR3 retail - $299.75NZD
PALIT 8800GT PCIE 512MB DDR3 Dual DVI $300.00NZD
Point Of View NVidia 8800GT 512MB GDDR3 PCI-E 2.0 HDMI (Special O $316.13NZD
Palit 8800GT PCIE 512MB DDR3 Dual DVI $317.25NZD

Is there even any difference between all that jumbo?

Thank you VERY much if you help! Much appreciated.

I use an MSI thats a 2 slot cooler and its fantastic. Go for the cheapest 2 slot cooler card.

Interesting that the Asus is cheapest, given that they usually overcharge. Here in Australia, going price for a generic 512MB 8800GT is around $230, so compare that to whatever the exchange rate is (I think your dollar is about level, right?).

You system is adequate, but make sure your power supply has at least 25ish amps on the +12V rail.

the 2 slot cooler card is the best it will give you more overclockability.but the price will go up as you can see in your OP.and the price difference are likely get you a 8800GTS which is the next level up.

the memory is fine if they are different brand since the bios will make them run at the same speed and timing.but just make sure their spec is the same since if you overclock then 1 may perform better then the other since hindering performance.brand is not that important but quality is!

i do believe that your CPU will be the main bottleneck of your system.try overclock it to the max somewhere near 2.9ghz if you got some decent cooling.

are you looking to change platform from AMD to Intel???Intel have a price cut on their processor by the way.better value for money.

Cheers mate. If I do buy an Intel processor (This won't be for months atleast), would I need to change anything else?

I think I'll stay with the single slot card, as I can't afford to spend more, and I'm desperate for CoD4 and Rainbow Six Vegas 2 :)

I could have another problem (I hope not). I took a look at my power supply and the specs are as follows.

+12V: 20amps
+5V: 40 amps
+3.3V 28 amps

Is that okay?

Really appreciating the help :) Thanks.

I'm wanting to order today :D

Oh, and, this is better than the 9600GT (much cheaper) aye?

dince your cpu isnt a very "powerfu;" one so it doesnt suck that much power.i guess you might get away with your PSU.but if its an quad core intel and OC then you need new PSU as well.
