2 hard drives, slow detection

Last response: in Storage

Im having an issue at my POST with 2 hard drives. One of them is my OSX86 setup, and the other is storage.
One is a WD2000, the other a WD800, (80gb and 200gb)
They both share the same issue: When the computer posts with the IDE drive connected, it takes FOREVER for it to detect. When i have ONLY that drive on the system (OSX86) It comes up saying there is no OS, i figure its something internally wrong with the drive, but im not sure. I have tried different jumper selections, but nothing seems to work.

This happens with both drives, regardless of what else is connected. I could have nothing, and i could have everything. It happens the same way.

S.M.A.R.T is disabled.

Hoping someone can gimme some sort of advice, as im out of thoughts on my end.

Thanks
-Dan

i think that's pretty normal with WD drives, they consume less power than other brands which slows their startup. good thing, my seagate is the boot drive.
my WD works only inside Windows.

i don't know what you meant by forever but what you can do is disable the quick boot and set your boot drive to "AUTO" in bios and set your CD drive to first to boot, just don't leave a disk in the drive.
hope it could give enough time for WD drives to spin. otherwise, you have to press RESET before the bios looks for the boot record.
