Ok I am looking at upgrading my graphics and i need spme thoughts on the better route for me to take..

I have a Asus M2N-SLI Deluxe MB .. if i run it in SLI the PCIe can only run at 8x ...

What i am looking at is getting 2 9600GT XXX cards (core 700mhz Mem 2000)
(Addon Question .. Can u still OC GPU's in SLI mode?)

or would it be better for me to get just one single card like the 9800 GTX OCX (core755mhz mem2300mhz) that can run faster

Thanks In Advanced for any input

you can still OC them...

Go for a better single card...9800GXT would be far superior to 2 9600GT XXX cards

Ya, i would say go with 9800 GTX also, 9600 GT XXX SLI won't get you far ahead, if you get 9800 GTX you can still add another one in later to SLI to boost performance if needed.

Yeah, I'm with you.  More often than not, Two 9600GT in SLI > one 9800GTX.

Add driverheaven as a site that tests real world gaming like [H].  But they test way more games than [H].  No 9800GTX, but notice the spanking the 9600GT SLI combo does to the high clocked 1GB 8800GTS G92.  Basically 8 of 10 games went to the SLI 9600GT solution.
http://www.driverheaven.net/review [...] &pageid=12

And notice this 1GB Gainward 8800GTS beats the 8800GTX and the article title suggests it beats the 9800GTX. http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/v [...] -1024.html

One other link (for the OP) shows the 650i 8x/8x is just fine for 8800GTX SLI even.  Here it is compared to the 16x/16x 680i.  Unfortunately high ress with fsaa should have been explored though to better saturate the bus.    But still, OP, don't let 8x/8x scare you from 9600GT sli: http://www.techspot.com/review/45- [...] page4.html

I would still go for one 9800GTX as you can add another later which would destroy 2 9600's
just me though....

G92 9800gtx are worthless. They are just overclocked g92 8800gts rebranded, repriced and made with cheaper components. See benchmark:
http://en.expreview.com/2008/04/03 [...] review/12/
G92 9800gtx with 675mhz core, compared to g92 with 675mhz core (overclocked from 650mhz stock). At the exact same clock rate, 9800gtx performs worse, due to inefficiencies introduced to further increase profit margin for 9800gtx.  :na:

2 9600 in sli will definately outperform one g92 9800gtx, or one g92 8800gts.

According to legitreviews, the ~$320 Radeon 4870 outperforms even the 9800GX2.................... end of topic :P

Outperformed by a large margin too. I doubt they'll be selling it at $320, if those reviews are real.

I know dammit, one of the reason those cards were attractive was the price, but if its too high I'll just wait. Our G80s and 92s 94s will satisfy our gaming needs fro a long time.
