I seem to live too close to my local nbc affiliate, which would be vhf
12. My UHf reception is v poor, 23 and 35 especially and i live within
10 miles of both. My question is am i likely to have same issue with the
hdtv programming which is available completely on UHF? Im tempted to
try a hdtv set top tuner and bring back if i still have all these local
channel problems. Sat/cable does not factor into this problem.Anyone
help???? Thanks.

Thanks 4 the input.I did try that web site and heres the thing. NBC 2.1
miles,abc 3.4,cbs 3.4,pbs 3.4,fox 8.8. I mean i cant be closer to the
channels!! I do have a basic antenna, because i attempted a roof top
one a couple of years ago and either i installed it wrong or it didn't
seem to make it any better. I live in suburbs of richmond va about those
3.4 miles outside. I mean there are a decent amount of trees, i just
didn't know if id be fighting the same problems should i go looking 4
the hdtv local signals. Does just looking for uhf signals mean that they
could come in clearer that an antenna looking for both? Excuse my
ignorance on the whole thing, all info much appreciated.

At those distances you should have no trouble receiving your digitals
with even the simplest UHF antenna. Even a whip should do for a test.
But aluminum siding and foil-faced insulation can knock the signals
down pretty well. If you have either or don't know, try a whip or
rabbit ears in a window facing the stations. All appear to be in the
same place except NBC. Your PBS analogs are also there, so use them
to line up on. If the window has a metal screen, remove it.
The Zenith Silver Sensor is a good indoor antenna that should work for
nearby stations. A 4-bay bowtie is an excellent choice if you have
the room. I put mine in the attic, but I had to remove a couple of
bats of foil-faced insulation to get it to work. And I have to
remember to replace them with kraft-faced before winter.
With luck you might get enough signal from your NBC station without
having to point your antenna at it.

At your distances your problem may be multipath. The answer would be a
receiver using an LG 5th gen chip.
The only ones I know of are the BBTI and the Dvico FusionHDTV5 Plus.
Both are PCI cards and I am using both at this moment.
These are the only receivers that anyone should buy if you want the best
results or are in multipath areas. Multipath areas can be virtually
anywhere however. LG has a couple of integrated HDTV sets that have the
same tech also.
