Hi im having a huge problem when trying to run Age Of Conan. And im starting to think i dont have enough power.
Basicly my computer just shuts down. Here is some explaination to how i have troubleshooted and my computer specifications. Im out of ideas at the moment.
1st. when i ran the game in SLI without V-Sync my computer shutdown during the introes, if i skipped them fast and got to login screen, it took 30sec-1min before it shut down.
2nd. when i ran the game in windowed mode, no problem at all.
3rd. So i activated v-sync in nvidia controll panel (force-on), in it worked perfectly in fullscreen, but then the new patches came, and it started to shutdown again.
4th. so i disabled sli and disabled v-sync. now i can play the game for about 5mins-2hours, but at some places, the computer just shuts down between these timeperiods.
5th. i tried to activate v-sync only, it now flows better, but it shuts down more frequently.

Things ive tried rather then fixing on the video options:
-discfragment
-disc cleanup
-turn off every background application
-open the chassis, touching in there with my hand and its not that hot. between 30-40C.
-reinstalling drivers. go from 169.44 nvidia drivers to 175.16 then back and to test the difference. I installed the 175.16 back today to see if it was any improvements, looks like its not better, but worse.
-running a verify of resource database with simpleconfig.exe - 0 errors.
-ran ShadeMark 2.1, results on 1920x1080 my max widescreen resulotion:
No computer shutdown.
All shader tests completed with 60FPS.
My system:
-OS: Windows XP professional 32bit. Service pack 1,2,3 installed.
-AMD Athlon 64 AM2 socket, X2 (dual core), 4200+, 2.2GHz
-ASUS M2N-E SLI motherboard. (latest chipset drivers resultet in blue screen of death.)
-4GB of Crucial DDR2 BallistiX PC6400 1024 CL4 x4
-Gainward Nvidia Geforce 8800 GTS 640mb GDDR3
-XFX Nvidia Geforce 8800 GTS 640mb GDD3
The SLI combo. only using the gainward when running a single card.
-Fortron Source Blue Storm II 400W
-4x harddisc drives. The OS is running on a SATA disc. 7200RPM.
-Creative Sound Blaster Audigy 2 soundcard.
Bios temperature reading just after computer shuts off:
CPU: 40C
Motherboard: 48C
The automatic fan controll on the GPU's dosnt start run faster during gaming.
One notice i can add, SLI ran fine in world of warcraft with V-sync activated. If i disabled v-sync in WoW, it resultet in the same errors after some time. why sli in wow? because i where preparing for the launch of age of conan. trying to get a computer worthy enough for the game.
But since ive tried so many things, im bit of lost where the problem may lie.
ok thanks, by removing the second gfx card, it works like a charm, all tho the game aint sunnring as smoothly as it would with two, but in about 3days when i get that, it will!
Hey Chroptus you're not the only one trying to get set up for Age Of Conan. I just built a new system and assumed my crappy echo star 600W PSU would be enough--WRONG!
I've been playing the early access last few days with great performance, but I have had about 5 random system reboots during high graphics loads. It seems the new ATI 3870 I just grabbed has amp requirements that occasionally outdo what the Echo Star can provide on the rail, though one would think 600W to be sufficient. The other culprit could be the fact that my Echo PSU came with no integrated PCI-e cable; I was forced use the ATI provided cable which leaves me with a PCI-e running over to a molex connector. Probably not kosher.
I made a bit of a gamble and ran out to grab a PSU at Best Buy: Rocketfish 700W 12Vx4. The reason I say gamble is that some research I did seems to indicate that single dedicated 12V PSU are the way to go for serious gamers. Unfourtunately every PSU that the local brand name stores carry in my area consist of dual or quad 12V rails--even thermaltake and antec. From what I've read this is great for running SLI or Crossfire setups, but not the most desirable for running a dedicated single card as I'm planning. Veterans--is that about accurate?
In any case I'm crossing my fingers--I don't OC anything and I've read a lot of reviews on Newegg where people are running single 3870/8800 cards on various 2x or 4x 12v rails without major issues.
Don't worry about the number of rails -- it's the quality of the PS itself (along with the +12V amperage rating) that makes the difference.
Indeed.
If I recall the manual rated this thing @ 18a per 12V rail. If the reviews on BB are not canned, I think this little oddball should handle a 3870 single just fine.
