After some very helpfull advice from some of you guys on this forum i have managed to overclock my q6600 to 3ghz, 333 X 9 with the standard unchanged vcore(132500V) however i did get the screen of death several times yesterday. I did test with prime 95 and it seemed stable for 10 mins with temps about 61C at full load. The idle temps are around 31-28 C. The ram's normal rate is 800mhz and is currently running on 833mhz. I did alter the vcore yesterday as i thought the system instability may have been due to a lack of power but my mild increase didnt have any effect. Today i just knocked the vcore to normal and the system seems to be fine.

Any ideas guys? Thanks in advance.

Also a quick noob question. What would you guys consider idle temp? Is it as soon as you swith your system on or do you leave it running for a while without load and then check the temps?

In my experience, most blue screens are ram related. Some ram just will not overclock well or at all. Even 33mhz in some cases can cause blue screens.

I would try a 1:1 ratio for now with your current fsb and other settings, and see if that solves the problem. You can always play with dividers and frequency later.

If you set your FSB of 333 with a multiplier of 9 to =2997 (3GHs).

I think your memory should be set to 667 (333x2) for a 1:1 ration.

MY bios sets my memory speed automatically when I change FSB speed and I didn't change it - so (and someone correct me if I'm wrong); you may be able to go in and set it to 800 with that 333FSB and still be ok. Not for sure that will give you the 1:1 ratio though

Start with vcore on stock @1.265 (maybe a little higher) and see if it boots. If it dont- increase voltage till it does.

MYself- I started with 1.4 and went down.

I would then run Prime95 for a minimum of 8 to 12 hrs. If it stays stable for that lenght of time go ahead and let it run about 24. If it doesn't - increase voltage a little more and try again till it does. Just make sure you don't go over the 1.5 limit, but with just a 3GHs OC; it should not even come close to that.

Hope that helps

it seems the most i can get to is 2.85ghz without registring an error on prime 95. Could this be due to the fact that i have flashed my mobo with the latest bios(i think was beta) for the ep35ds3l? Is it possible to downgrade bios?
