My friend has a computer that he bought a SATA 1TB Hitachi for, here's the link: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6822145233

We're having problems setting the computer up to install an operating system onto the SATA hard drive.

We have a 250GB EIDE HD installed also, but he's installing Ubuntu on that hard drive.

I slipstreamed a driver pack into Windows XP Pro SP2 using nLite. XP saw the hard drive, it just wouldn't install XP onto the hard drive.

We then tried Vista Ultimate x64. Same problem, Vista saw the HD, it just wouldn't install the OS onto the HD.

So we took the drivers from his motherboard manufacturers website (Gigabyte) and we put the drivers onto a USB drive so that Vista could detect the drivers, and it DID detect the drivers for the SATA Controller, but none of the drivers were compatible.

Can someone help?

If you need any additional information, just ask and I will provide.
Thanks. :)

Could be a motherboard-related problem. What is your friend's mobo? Also, please be specific.
