ive always put my os in a seperate partition
and my most frequently played games in seperate partitions aswell

ie
c: (os)25 gigs
d: (wow)30 gigs
e: (pong) 5 gigs
f: (misc games) 80 gigs
g: (misc storage (pics music ie)150gigs

random numbers used for sake of example

is there a proper partitioning format to use???

aswell any assistance on partitioning a
W/D Caviar Black 640GB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb
with xp home

for maximum performance

thank you

OS+apps(including games) go on one partition. Some games install files into the \Windows folder and when you clean install the OS, games previously stored on other partition won't work until re-installed. I keep a 60GB partition for that purpose.
How you arrange other partitions is up to you.

I'm not sure that your going to notice a performance increase just by partitioning. I always make a Data partition and then a separate OS partitions, for the convenience of data sharing and reinstallation. To notice a performance increase your going to need to have two hard drives.

tried partitioning a drive and saw no performance gain. On the other hand i switched to a program drive and a data drive and life got a lot smoother
