Hello,

My brother wants his machine upgrading, its a Shuttle SN95G5 with an AGP 6800GT and a 3500+. I found this 7800:

http://www.eclipsecomputers.com/product.aspx?code=GC-AN78GS256

and this 7900:

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-107-XF&groupid=701&catid=56&subcat=411

Now I think either should fit (maybe a little case mod required) but I'm more worried about the power requirements as the shuttle has a 240watt. I cant find any old reviews of these cards that give some stats on wattage, anyone know if they would work ok?

thanks for any help

I don't remember if the power requirements went up with the 7800, I know they went down with the 7900. (7900GS uses less power then the 7800GS) If you have a 6800GT running in there right now, a 7900GS should be fine.

The performance won't be a huge increase however. You'll get faster frame rates for sure, but I'm not sure its worth the 90pounds. You might want to look and see if the 2600XT or 3650 is cheaper. All three cards perform about the same, just trying to save you some money...

Cheers.

good chart at tomshardware.com

i have 7900GS installed and just tested to confirm it will draw ~30w just to show you display, and another ~30-40w when in 3D

so basically if computer runs fine with old 6800gt it will work with 7900gs
