I am looking into building a relatively inexpensive computer for general purpose and some gaming. I already have an ATX Case, Sata dvd burner, and 2x320 sata seagate hard drives (that I want to put in raid 0), but I need the rest of the parts for the machine.
I have come up with a list of parts from newegg, but would like any suggestions or recommended changes to the parts list that are available on newegg (have an account, makes it easy for me to pay).
My biggest concern is what motherboard to go with. I want to get a AM2/AM2+ motherboard so that I can upgrade to a phenom at a later time when they are more mature. Right now my current parts list is around ~ 500 usd and I would like to keep it between 500-600 bucks. I do realize that if I get that motherboard with that power supply I will need the 8pin power adapter, but I don't want to change the power supply since that is a fantastic 80plus power supply for what it costs and 450 watts should be more than enough for this type of build. I also am fairly set on the AMD x2 5000+ black since I know it will overclock well and is inexpensive(86usd) right now.
Any suggestions / recommendations are greatly appreciated. I am hoping to order this in the next few days and run windows xp sp2 32 bit and Ubuntu dual boot on it.
Thanks,
Looks great except for the cpu cooler. Go with ARCTIC COOLING Freezer 64 Pro which costs about the same, but is an overall better cooler.
The Biostar mobos are tricky - the AM2 board supports only AM2+ once the bios is flashed to the latest. There'll be no going back. Go with the AM2+ one. It's backward compatible with AM2.

Do you think this motherboard would be better / worth the extra 20 bucks?
