When I run CPU-Z,my core#0 temp is at 35C while core#1 temp is at 39C on idle but when I run orthos,my core#0 and core#1 temp raise to 46C(the maximum from my settings). So is my overclock setting good?Is there anything that I need to change so my temp is not around 35C something because my CPU cooler is scythe mugen and I should be able to get around 25C something.Anyone can help me please?

your idle temp seems fine, but you should be able to easily hit 4ghz, with a mild voltage increase on the vcore, also sey the ddr2 to +0.3v instead of .4 cos ure overvolting ure ram whic isnt needed

Ok,so I just tried to OC my cpu to 4.0Ghz and run orthos for 10 min to see my systems is stable or not and it seems my system works very stable.idle temp shows that core#0 is at 34-37C while core#1 is at 39C.when I run orthos, both of the core's temp rise to 49-50C.and then when I run speedFan,it shows a picture of fire on my core0 and core1 when the temp reach 50C.Is everything ok?I didn run prime95 to test my memory too. After run for around 15min,everything seems ok and stable.so what do you think guys?can anyone please help me?

Those temps are perfectly fine. I always try to keep load temps on the cores under 65C when overclocking. But 15 minutes is not enough for stress testing. Test it for at least 8 hours with orthos, pref 12-24 hours.

yea sorry but what help do you need you have done what most people need to, research. also your only at 1.3vcore but you might be able to hit 4.5ghz with reasonable voltage. either way you might aswell keep pushing untill your temps arent safe then you will have a very good overclock.

so you said that I still can overclock my cpu till 4.5ghz?I thought the maximum for e8400 is only till 4.0ghz.I think I'm gonna stay in 4.0Ghz and I don't want to reduce my CPU's life.So is my settings everything fine?is there anything that I need to change or something?

I have Gigabyte EP45-DS3, Intel core duo 2 e8400. gainward hd4870 GS 1gt, ocz reaper pc2 8500 2x 2gt.. and i wud like to know some good program to clock the processor up.. and the memorys.. For vidcard wud be awesome.. but as far as i have looked.. there is no program for it..

Thanks..

Sorry to reply to this thread when it's been inactive for awhile but my problem seems related to the OP as that I have the same PC build and after researching and tweaking I can't seem to make my pc run at a stable 4.0ghz, I tried using the same settings as the OP but setting my System memory multiplier to 2.40b (increasing memory frequency to 1068mhz) and setting ddr2 overvoltage to +0.40v causes my pc to crash upon reboot and resets the OC to default. I'm not sure if maybe the OP got the memory settings wrong or if my memory just can't handle being OCed. Any help is appreciated.

Edit: OP = Original Poster just so you guys know.

kiroku, you should start your own threat and let a dead thread rest in peace.

I have 4 Core2 Gigabyte boards:
GA-EP45-UD3P | Q9550 OC'd to 3.6 GHz (425 MHz X 8.5) C3 stepping :(
GA-EP45-UD3L | Q6600 OC'd to 3.6 GHz (400 MHz X 9)
GA-EP35-DS3P | E7500 OC'd to 4.1 GHz (373 MHz X 11)
GA-G41M-ES2L | E6500 OC'd to 3.66 GHz (333 MHz X 11) FSB quits at about 345 MHz.
All are 24 hour Prime95 stable. All have System Memory Multiplier set to 2.0.

I keep saying that overclocking RAM in a Core2 system adds little if any real world performance. And doing so gives you more room to push the FSB freq higher without running into memory limitations.

If you are running DDR2 RAM, you can push the RAM voltage up to 2.2 volts.

To get to 4.0 GHz, you will need good cooling. Do not exceed 1.45 volts on the core or load temps of 70 C.

The other thing to keep in mind is that you cannot simply use the same settings that someone else did. THere's just too many variations. That's why we call them guides.
