So I'm helping my friend build a computer and have a possible system build. I've never actually built a computer before, but I've done my homework and just wanted to make sure its all kosher. Especially the PSU. I really don't know anything about "rails" or anything like that, so if this build looks like it might have a problem please help me. Here it is:

Motherboard:
GIGABYTE GA-P35-S3G LGA 775 Intel P35 ATX Intel Motherboard – Retail - $80 New Egg

CPU:
Intel E8400 3.0ghz - $210 on Amazon.com

RAM:
CORSAIR XMS2 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory – Retail - $50 on New Egg with $25 rebate (great deal on a good brand)

Power Supply Unit:
APEVIA ATX-AS520W-BK ATX 520W Power Supply 115/ 230 V CB IEC 950/ TUV EN 60950/ UL 1950/ CSA 950 – Retail - $60 on New Egg

Hard Drive:
Western Digital Caviar SE WD800JB 80GB 7200 RPM 8MB Cache IDE Ultra ATA100 Hard Drive – OEM - $41 on New Egg

Optical Drive:
LITE-ON Black 16X DVD-ROM 52X CD-R 32X CD-RW 52X CD-ROM SATA Combo – OEM - $23 on New Egg

Video Car:
8800gt PNY

Thanks

Those power supplies tend to not be too good.

The system in question, if its not getting overclocked allot does not need allot of power.

Don't let the lower power fool you, that system is not power hungry and this psu can channel allot of its power to the 12 volt rail if needed.

Or better yet. since you dont seem to have a case.

^ He's right about the PSU. Although, I would still go for a more powerful one like the Corsair 450VX or even the 550VX. The 380 would most likely work, but I would go with a little extra for any future upgrades.

The optical drive you chose only burns CD's. I would spend a few more dollars and get one capable of burning DVD's as well like this Samsung DVD±RW for $30. If you look at the drive you chose, you're paying for $7 shipping, while the better drive has free shipping. Why pay the same price for an inferior product?

The HDD you chose is extremely tiny and uses a fat IDE cable. The SATA version costs exactly the same and will help improve your airflow. Unless you have older HDD's you are reusing, I would also strongly consider upgrading to a higher capacity drive. Just adding an extra $10 will double your space... well worth it in my opinion.

You should definitely get a "Retail" cd/dvd burner... includes the software for ~$10 more.

Also, get a SATA hard drive. Probably with more capacity as well, newer games use 5+ gigabytes of space.

For powersupply, they ^ are both right.

Last thing, are you sure that motherboard works with Wolfdale 45nm CPU without a BIOS update? I've heard that the Gigabyte DS3-L does (about $10 more than what you have), but then they are both pretty much the same board.

It depends on if the boards they have instock are old leftovers or new shipment. They don't mention which version of bios is included.

my bad.

do NOT get an IDE drive since those boards only have 1 ide port and you never want the ODD/HDD to share.

you may as well get a DVD burner(considering its like 5$'s more). IDE or SATA does not matter much.

Do you have a case for this system?
