Windows vista boot media download

Hello,
I have Windows Vista SP1 run on a basic Trendsonic PC. Recently, the operating system has failed and when trying to boot i am asked to "Restart and select proper boot or insert boot media". as much as i have no idea what that means, ive tried many times, I've had friends who are stumped by it and i tried to put the recovery disk in, it asked for my product key and it still couldn't help me as it wanted boot drivers from a portable media device. How do i find them?
