He guys what cards would u recommend for gaming. The motherboard i have is a msi p6n diamond which has 4 pcie slots. My budget is a little under 550$. Should i get a 9800gx2? or 2 8800gts g92 or any other card? any suggestion?
Thanks

hmmm...I'm not a big fan of the waiting slogan, but there are some big names on the near horizon, namely the HD4800s so I'd wait. Trust me the 9800GX2 is a big scam don't get it. Perf/price is really bad.

I need a nvidia card since my mobo has sli im most likely going to want to upgrade in the future. I heard the 9900gtx was coming out in the near future i can always buy an evga card and step up if it comes within 90days. But i need to get a card to play games now.

Then the 2 g92 8800gts significantly outperform a single 9800gx2. With how things are going though, it's still best to wait.

Btw, according to early benchmarks, a single 4870 outperform a 9800gx2 by as much as 50%.

Really so u think ati will take back the title. But i mean what card would u recommend now ill probably will step up when the 9900gtx comes out so should i just get the 9800gx2 now then step up?

9900gtx shouldn't be counted on just yet. It may be powerful, it may not. There are several rumors going on. One claims it use g200 gpu, in which case it should be a monster. Another claims it use g92 gpu with the larger non-crippled memory bus (in contrast to 8800gts's performance with crippled memory bus), in which case it'll fall short of the 3870 considerably.

Now that u mention that nvidia did screw us over with the 9800gtx maybe ur right, but if they did us the new g200 and use 512bit interface then that would be one hell of a card, but im gonna get nvidia due to the sli mobo i have. i just found out bfg has a step up program which is 100days 10 more then evga.

I wouldnt go by those early benches. Its getting close, so well soon see better "real" benches coming soon. To the OP, Id wait for a major purchase, or go the EVGA route

Dude save $500 on that 9800GX2 and get a good meal for your dog...
Wait till the 4800s and the 9900s come out! Prices will drop

And dude! based on your hardware config you got a 9800GTX. Why upgrade?

^^word, "Dude save $500 on that 9800GX2 and get a good meal for your dog...", now that was hilarious, its true there is no need to be so exuberant with purchasing. Don't be manipulated into consumerist spending my dear friends.

Use the 500$ to buy a good dog...
Just joking, yeah, get the 9800GX2 if you really want it, and then use the step up program to buy the new card weeks later

Both are bad values.
http://en.expreview.com/2008/04/03/geforce-9800gtx-review/12/

One 9800gx2 perform even worse than 2 9800gtx. Does the step up work for 4870? Or can you only get a 9900 with it? The problem is, there's too little details for 9900 at this time. We don't even know what core it runs on, not to mention predicting performance. Getting 9800gx2/9800gtx and stepping up to 9900 is a gamble.

You might as well get a cheap card that'll last until 4870/9900 comes out. If 9900 turns out to be the real deal, step up to it. If 9900 flaunders, buy the 4870 and scrap the cheap card, since it's not much loss anyway. :p

I'm gonna point out that if you buy a pair of 8800GTS(G92)s you have effectively as good a pair of cards as if you bought 9800GTXs, can *still* use the "Step-up" program if you really think you need to, *and* spent less money if you decide you don't need to step-up after all.

This is coming from someone who has a 9800GTX and wishes he'd waited or gone with the 8800GTS in case the 9900s don't come out in time to use the step-up. My plan was to use the 9800GTX until the 9900s come out, then step-up the GTX while buying a 9900 for SLI...we'll see though.

Worst-case scenario with the 8800GTS, the 9900s are delayed, you don't get to "step-up," and you're stuck with two really good cards.

Keep in mind the 9800GX2 is not terribly impressive by any standards except the amount of heat it dumps into the case and the price tag.

since i need a card now ill just get the 9800gx2 and then step up to a 9900gtx i hear the 9900gtx has a new core and will be much better due to the 4xxx series giving them competition. After the release of the 8series they got lazy hopefully the last 2 yrs instead of sitting there due to lack of competition they actually worked on making a much better card. i hear rumors saying might have 512bit interface and a single 9900gtx could easily beat the 9800gx2 but just rumors hopefully its true.

The g200 is just a rumor, and is no more believable than the rival rumor claiming it runs on g92. So is the 512bit memory bus. It's not good to spend so much money based purely on rumors.
