WUSB11 v2.6 can't download driver

I have an old WUSB11 v2.6 wireless adaptor (Linksys). I can't download the driver from their website -- it starts but then the download speed gets slower and slower and finally stops. Restarting doesn't work because after 3 or 4 tries it starts over. When I downloaded one from another website

it downloads fine, but the found new hardware wizard can't find it and if I try to start it manually by double clicking "setup.exe" it flashes momentarily on the screen and disappears. HELP!

turn off the antivirus and firewall before installing the driver

I tried that, thanks for the suggestion, but it didn't make any difference.
