I was wondering if anyone knows about the problems with using DDR2 1066 - 1200 RAM on the XFX/eVGA 780i motherboards.

Right now I plan on playing it safe and getting some nice DDR2 800 RAM, but I was wondering if anyone could recommend some 1066 - 1200 RAM that works with these motherboards.

Thanks.

Check mem support on evga : http://www.evga.com/support/mbmem/default.asp#680i
It's listed on the right side.
I think for XFX is more or less is the same.

Thanks slicessoul. eVGA seems to only show 2x1gb RAM for their Motherboard/memory compatability list.

However, I did browse through their message boards and found that this RAM shoud work fine:CORSAIR DOMINATOR 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6820145197

Are the 780/790i boards really that finiky? I mean, when it gets to the point where you need to go based on a list of pretested memory, you've pretty much undermined the point of standards listed by the different specs of ddr etc. I'm hoping this is just a marketing ploy.

To my understanding, as far as the 780i boards go, you're pretty much safe with any DDR2 800 RAM that you go with, but if you want to go higher than 800, these boards become very finiky, especially when using 4 DIMMs (4 x 8GB).
