Hi is my q6600 chip a piece of poop?

so, i have a Q6600 G0 chip that i got about 11 months ago. i only recently decided to oc it. the VID i got from coretemp is 1.28, if that even matters.

problem is i need a massive 1.35v (in bios) just to get 3.0ghz, prime has been running for 4hrs so far, dont even know if its stable. i read most people can go 3.0ghz on "stock voltage" (which i assume is the VID for their chip). also at 3.0ghz my temps go from 40-70 which is a 30 degree jump... and yes i have refitted my hs many times both my stock hs and a thermaltake maxorb. funny thing is max orb only shaves off 3-4 degrees.

another thing to note is that my core0 and core3 have a 10 degree delta between them.. wtf?

lastly, i tried to increase my NB to 1.4v but as far as i understand, NB doesnt need to be increased unless im going over the 1333fsb my board is rated for.

so any suggestions? or is my chip faulty?

extra info: i have a coolmaster cosmos case with 120 rear fan, 2x120 top exhaust fans and a 120 bottom intake fan, but my temps are still terrible.

Each chip is different. I have mine at 3.15Ghz and my voltage at 1.3. 1.5 is the max you can go. Most of the time the heat difference between the cores will do that. You should have better cooling though, 70 is high. What MB are you using?

You are supoosed to stay under 71ºC, which you are, with that processor.

As far as the 10º difference check the heatsink push pins.

Dont feel bad the VID on my chip is like 1.32 if I remember correctly. Although I'm managing to run it at 3.0 GHz under 60C with that voltage. I can get up to a 10 degree difference between cores. I think that is the norm.

Guess I am lucky. Running at 3.21 on stock voltage. Sounds like you need a better CPU cooler. I have a Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme and my temps are 31 degrees C as we speak. And that is overclocked to 3.21.

Funny. I also have a q6600 G0 that needs 1.35 to make 3 ghz. My VID is 1.325, and I am running it on a GA-P35-DS3L. Also, my core 0 and core 3 are ten degrees apart, with core 0 being hotter. However, my temps are better than yours. I am using a AC7 and the processor idles 25-35C, and temps go up to 55-65C in Prime95.

I put a fan on my NB, even though I kept the NB voltage at stock, maybe that would help you if your mobo doesnt already have one.

I totally agree with apache_lives.. Most people with e8400 could easily run 4ghz with 1.35v or lower.. i have to use 1.48v to even stablise at that clock speed..
