I'm going to Taiwan in the first week of June and will build a desktop within my first week there so I want to do my research here why i still have access to a decent computer. I'm upgrading from: P4 2.6, 1gb ram, Geforce 6200 (passive), scythe katana (best investment ever), 19" Samsung CRT hooked in to an old Sony amp with a 4.0 speaker setup. This is what I'm thinking so far

Case: Lian Li miniATX PC-A05B
CPU: Q9450 OC past 3Ghz
GPU: GeForce 9600 GT 512 MB
MB: P45 (non-sli), DDR2, good for OC, released around the time of my build
Ram: 4gb (2x2gb) is DDR2-800 enough to push the OC or should I get DDR2-1000?
HD: a quiet single platter drive for OS and probably a good 750GB also quiet for storage
PSU: something very quiet & modular, not sure how much power I would need 500-650w?
for single GPU and has to support the power requirements to PCI 2.0 MB, i was reading that the can supply
to 300W to the GPU so i won't need to run an extra cable to the video card
CPU cooler: big heat sink that can fit in the case and is inaudible
Optical drives: DVD multidrive that's quiet
Modding: case fans upgraded to something quieter?

Later additions:
second large HD
TV tunner
sound card
wireless LAN card
BR-burner

Overall feed back would be appreciated, recommendations for the hard drives, case fans, PSU cooler and especially information, specifications and recommendations for the PSU, one area that seems to be difficult to learn about.

Might want a bigger case, especially with all those things you want to put in it, and the overclock will increase the heat.

I would at least mod a front intake fan in there, give those components some air to breath. Or put an exhaust fan on the top, and switch the rear fan to intake. Lots of possibilities. :sol:

For powersupply, a Corsair 520HX would probably be fine.

Hurray! P45 should have been out by then. You're def. on the right track. I think the chipsets have already been manufactured & shipped.

Now see, you're gunning for Yorkie which has low multiplier. The only way to overclock them is use a high FSB. Which means faster ram speed. I'd say at least PC2-1066 or faster. i.e.

400 x 8 = 3200 or 3.2ghz

That's a low o/c, considering the 65nm quads can do better at around 3.6ghz. If you have faster ram, you have headroom for further o/c's. It's up to you. You must set your goal or else you are wasting money.

I suggest you buy the psu in the states unless it's cheaper in taiwan.
