AS5 fine for southbridge chipset?

Hey guys, I have a question about motherboard repair. My brother's southbridge chipset fan is pretty much kaput, and I have a replacement fan to put on it. Is it safe to use AS5 as the thermal compound on the exposed chip? Or since there's no heatspreader do I have to use something like Ceramique? I'm worried that since it's direct contact with the chip some kind of shorting would occur with a non-insulator. Are my fears validated? Thanks in advance for any help. :)

I wouldn't try it, it's dangerous since it's not a HSF for a processor. Don't do it, wait for the chip set fan to arrive. TIM won't do anything unless there is thermal contact like IHS to HSF base.

I've used Arctic Silver and similar compounds since my first Thunderbird on socket A. The chip back then was as bare as your southbridge and it worked fine.
Just, as Shadow pointed out, don't put it on the resistors.

Thanks for all the advice guys. I went ahead and did it, and it went without a hitch. Everything is running great (and quiet :)) and there weren't any problems! Thanks again!!
