weird internet problem with old compaq fresh install xp pro can connect to web at my place but not at neighbors house both have same internet (cable high speed). all drivers are installed checked in device manager only thing he has is voip i dont any help thanks

Check if your laptop is getting IP address from his DHCP server. If none present, set it manually according to his subnet settings.

all this is done in cmd line right all under ipconfig correct. if no ip is given there then i no i have to set it manually yes?

Yes:

To check IP: run - cmd - ipconfig /all

If you find ip starting: 169.254.x.x - that means there is no connectivity with his DHCP server and you need to set ip manually on TCP/IP properties of your network adapter.

i forgot to mention there is a working computer in the house that is online so the internet is working
