2 or 3 wd 640gig and help with config

hey everyone,

My hard drive just died and was curious on your reccomendation i was thinking of getting 2 or 3 wd 640gig black hdd. My idea was either get 2 and put them in raid 0+1 setup or get 3 wed 640 hhd and put 2 of them in a raid 0 and the third as standalone.

Any opinions or suggestiond would be appreciated and if i do the 0+1 how much should i put with raid 0 and how much with raid 1

Why are you considering RAID in the first place? Honestly, the individual drives themselves are fast enough for must uses. Unless you want to cut down a second or two from your game loading times, or edit video and audio for a living, it's not really worth the trouble creating and maintaining a RAID array.

RAID 0+1 requires 4 drives at a minimum (2 striped and another 2 that mirror the stripes).

What you could do with 3 though is RAID 5 (2 striped and the 3rd as parity).
