Your question

Upgrade RAM or just add mores sticks

Here is my current system setup:
C2D E6850 @ 3.6 GHz and 1600MHz FSB
DDR 3 1333MHz Corsair Ram timings 9-9-9-24
Asus P5K3 Deluxe
Win XP
2 Raptors in RAID 0
8800 GT

The problem:
I recently got some extra cash to spend and the one thing that I have wanted to upgrade for a while is my RAM. Currently I have 2 one gig sticks of DDR3 RAM as listed above. I have two possible upgrade options: My initial plan was to buy 2 more one gig sticks and just slap them in for a total of 4 GB (3 under XP). I realized that since I keep my FSB overclocked to 1600MHz, why not take the old RAM out and slap in two gigs of DDR3 ram at 1600Mhz for a total of 2 gigs in the system, keeping the ration at 1:1. DDR 3 ram has gotten a bit cheaper and I can probably get the higher clocked RAM for under $250 with tighter timings.

I'm not sure what will give better performance and be a worthy upgrade. I typically run games and other big programs, soon to be some engineering programs when I head back to school. What do you all think is the best solution to this little dilema?

So, basically, you'd pay $250 to see 3 GB of RAM instead of 2 GB. Ah, the joys of DDR3... TBH I'd keep the money.

not to hijack the thread or anything, but how is ddr3? any better than ddr2? can you notice a dif?

id prob keep the money too. spend that 250 towards a new vid card. get a 9800gx2/better vid card instead of ram.
