Hey guys, I just built a new machine and all my scores in vista are at 5.9 except my CPU which is 5.8.  My performance is fine, 40-100fps on high in AoC depending on what I'm doing, but its that stupid number thats bugging me.  What would it need to be clocked up to in order to achieve that perfect 5.9?

you need a quad for that [2.4ghz q6600 would be enuogh]

You would need a Quad Core.

I have the same thing, no matter what I do I can't get my E8400 even with the rest of y system. IMO the vista rating is useless, actual game performance is all you should worry about.

Vista score means nothing, zippo, zilch, nada ....don't even worry about it.

If someone has obsessive-compulsive tendencies "DING DING DING" ain't really gonna matter. The OP just wanted to know how to reach 5.9. I thought it was a valid question.

Yeah I know it doesnt mean crap, its just the OCD in me coming out (as stated before me).  Was just curious if there was a way I could force it up.  I could deal with it being like 5.5, but .1 off?  COME ON!

WEI isn't a measure of speed for individual cores.  It measures raw throughput for the entirety of each (sub)system.   Therefore a quad has a significant advantage in this over a dual.  And also explains why DDR2 800 at 1:1 on a 1600 Mhz FSB beats 1066 RAM on a 1066 buss.

For a processor, it measures:

1. Compression and decompression using the LZW compression algorithm
2. Compression and decompression using the Windows Vista compression algorithm used for hibernation files, ReadyBoost and other features
3. Encryption and decryption assessment
4. Computing hashes
5. Encoding of video

Hmmm..  Heavy Video encoding and compression/decompression...  Well  *DUHHH* by those standards a quad is going to kick a dual in the nuts, HARD, then screw it's girlfriend in front of it while the poor thing helplessly writhes on the floor.

Look... I know that, because it says "Vista" on the label, a very large number of people are already pre-convinced it is the more horrible piece of malformed trash ever to survive an alcoholoic abortionist's drunken attempt to end it's miserable existance, and therefore completely unworthy of even a cursory glance, or even the effort to spit on it's creators.  But on the small chance somebody would deign to take a moment to understand what's going on behind the scenes, this is what WEI actually does and measures:

The worst part of my Vista 64 experience is having to listen to all of the individuals who apparently feel it's their 'Grand Mission In Life' to tell me about all of the things that (supposedly) don't work, when it *does* work.

Thats a pretty useful bit of info Scotteq

Yup you need a quad. I had a dual up to 4.2 and still 5.8.

E8400 needs to be at around 4Ghz to get 5.9, it is a fairly meaningless score mind...

No need for Quad, my E8500 @ 4ghz gets 5.9

that score doesnt matter! if its really bugging u overclock more or buy a quad my q6600 gets 5.9

We all know it doesn't matter!!  It's just for **** and giggles! ;)

It's just irratating having all of them at 5.9 and 1 of them at 5.7 or something.

Mine are all 5.9 except HDD which is 5.7, that is annoying. Especially as my data drive is a Samsung Spinpoint F1 which should get 5.9 if it was the boot drive!

Well I had my Q6600 @ 5.9 even stock. But I am always at 5.8 cuz the GPU is listed at 5.8 (HD2900Pro 1GB).

How about you turn off Speedstep and C1E so it runs at 3.6GHz full time and see if that makes it pop to 5.9. I am sure its just not having to utilize the CPU at its max speed.
