First time OCing, amd 64x2 3800+

Hi all. I had purchased a desktop from HP a while back (specs here:http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00485646&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=ca&lang=en&product=1127366#N360) and have since upgraded a few parts; the psu, graphics card, and some added ram. As of now I'm running:

Processor: AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+
Mobo: MS-7184
Memory: 3 GB of DDR ram - two 512Mb PC3200 (200Mhz) sticks in two slots, and two 1Gb PC3200 (200Mhz) sticks in the other two slots.
GFX: NVIDIA GeForce 7600GT 256Mb
PSU: 500W OCZ

Also I'm running Windows XP SP3.

I looked up guides on overclocking the 3800+, but all of the guides used different motherboards than I had and I wasn't sure if that made a big difference. I was wondering if anyone else had experience with overclocking this cpu.

Should I go about this as the stickied guide suggests?

Thanks!

  1. Sure.
You might also consider upgrading while parts of your old system still have value. Your CPU should sell for $60 or more on ebay and you should be able to get $20 for your RAM and $25 or more for your video card.
You can buy a very nice MB and dual- or tri-core CPU combo for $150 or so, 2x2GB of DDR2 for $35, and a much more powerful video card for $50 on up.
