So we moved last august, and at that point the only computer i had was an old laptop. When we got to our new house, my dad who had been living their for a while before we came, had a new laptop. At that point, the old laptop died. It would shut off randomly and give me a blue screen. I thought it might be overheating, but installing Ubuntu on the laptop fixed that issue. (it was running XP home before that). However, in about march, the laptop started to freeze randomly and when i tried to turn it on, sometimes it wouldnt turn on at all. It took several tries to get it to turn on, and after i did, sometimes it would freeze right away anyway. So, last night i was bored, so i tried to turn it on, and it did. So i took the opprotunity to try to install kubuntu as the only Operating system. (it was running ubuntu and xp at that time). But when i tried to install Kubuntu, it gave me this screen.

Before that, i installed speedfan and checked the CPU and HDD temperatures. The CPU was at about 46-48, and the hard drive was at 40.

The hard drive makes some louder than normal sounds when turning on, which makes me think that its the hard drive dying.

The laptop is a Vaio, not sure which model, the sticker fell off.
It has a Intel Pentium M 1.7Ghz CPU
512 MB of ram
40GB hard drive

Its an old computer, and i really dont NEED it, considering that i just built my first computer.
Its missing 3 keys, and is starting to develop some dead pixels on the screen.

Hey brenslick, your hard disk should actually be considered dead. Based on the screenshot you provided, it looks like your drive has so many physical errors, at least enough that it's probably worth buying a replacement hard disk. Who knows, all your old computer needs is a new hard disk to work properly.

those errors kept going for about 20 minutes, so yeah im gonna call it dead and i might get a new one.
