Hey all,

I need one more suggestion for motherboard. I am a fairly heavy gamer and mostly thats what I do on my pc. I will be overclocking and will not be crossfiring/sli'ing. Any suggestions for motherboard? I was thinking just the P5Q since its on sale for $135 but my main concern is the motherboard under performing and bottlenecking my system.

Suggestions? Thanks!

well the p5q i found on newegg was 129$ and no i dont think it will bottleneck your system. if you are not going to be doing any crossfiring/sli'ing why dont you look at some gigabit boards? they can be cheaper( although the 129 was not a bad price)

This is the board im going after when the E8600 releases later this summer. I heard nothing but good things out of it online and people I know who got one.

Soldier, I have read people saying to stay away from Nvidia chipsets?

i hear the 50 series ( 550,650,750) had some issues and they did not have all the features of the 80 series(580,680,780). other than that i think the only reason people have problems with them is cause nvidia does not have the greatest drivers.

P45 overclocks as well as more expensive x38/x48, and far better than any nvidia chipset in existance. The only significant difference is that most p45 does not support crossfire, the few models that do only run it at 8x each, while all x38 boards run crossfire at full x16 in PCIE2.0(32x, if you will). But since you're not running dual cards, there's no point paying more for x38/48.

P45 at $99.99, does not support crossfire, like most cheaper p45 boards. But it's half the cost of x38, for a solid overclocker.

dagger,
i am interested in same. how do you know that the p45 is a good overclocker? have you used one or do you have any links that demonstrate that?

i have built the e8400 with the abit ip35-e and that was a great overclocker (well over 4.0 and even 500fsb) but i like the pci 2.0 support and would like to play around with a different chipset and motherboard. just a little warning that the e8400 gets hot when you push it hard so plan on a top of the line air cooler like the thermalright ultra 120 extreme or the zigmatek. i tried the zalman 9700 but i had to run the fan too high to keep it cool.
