A few days ago I built an i7 system in a Cosmos S case and with Coolermaster V8 heat sink. All was well, until I downloaded realtemp to see how well the heat sink was working. To my astonishment, it was IDLING at 47 C. I know I installed the heatsink improperly, I just wonder what I did wrong. At one point I removed the heat sink because it was facing the wrong direction (my error) and didn't reapply the thermal paste. Could this have created such a high idling temperature? Needless to say, I will be reinstalling the heat sink before playing any games or using any intensive programs.

If its hot in your room, 47 isn't terrible to be honest. I7's idle pretty high, but it's always best to reseat it if you feel you misapplied the paste in the reinstall.

So, 47 C may be normal for idle, even if the processor is not overclocked? I ran a stress test on the computer and it shot up to 93 C. I shut it off immediately to prevent damage.
