wanna upgrade my computer and keep the hdd case psu dvd etc...
using it for doing CAD,and a bit of video editing, baty, css and hopefully some new games such as call of duty.
I have a 19" wide screen and i don't think i would play games at high resolutions but would like eye candy and stuff.
i am from New Zealand so the prices are different.

Mobo:Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L $120 NZ $95 US This is kinda expensive isnt it?
Cpu: Pentium E2160, 1.8GHz $95 NZ $75 US would over clock this a bit
cpu cooler: Cooler Master HYPER 212 $78 NZ $60 US (wanted to get the hyper tx2 like on the "$500 gaming pc" but couldnt find any in nz or any that ship with reasonable price)
Ram: 2 x 2GB Patriot DDR2-800 $90 NZ $70 US (buying from America so there $40 atm then $30 for shipping )
Gcard: PALIT 8800GT 512MB DDR3 $300 NZ $235 US (this really expensive compared to other parts is it worth it?)
http://www.etccomputers.co.nz/shop [...] sp?pid=652 any idea what brand this 8800gt is , its a bit cheaper then the palit.
total: $683 NZ $ 540 US
hmm with it all totaled its probably on the high side of what i would like to spend
You could go with a 9600GT or 8800GS and save a few bucks, they perform a little under the 8800GT but are still great cards. The Xigmatec cooler that other forum members mention gets outstanding reviews and is about half the cost of the cooler master you have chosen. I don't see a case or power supply mentioned?

Mobo is fine, CPU is great, drop the CPU aftermarket cpu cooler IMO- its not needed to get up to 3.2ghz OC- the stock fan will do fine, Ram- try and find something a bit cheaper... something you dont need to pay to send in really...
Graphic: 8800gt is awesome, its going in my $1k build, i think its very much worth it, but if you want a step down, go with a 9600GT.
This is a pretty cheap build for a gaming machine that should do pretty well though...
I cant find any Xigmatex coolers in new zealand. Yea I just wont get any and save $80. Just gona use my old case and psu. Its 400w "x-power" i dont know if thats a ok or bad brand but psu's are no fun to spend money on..I think its worth about $40 NZ to buy one new.
I think i want 4 gig of ram, that ram even with shipping is cheaper then the cheapest 4 gig i can get in NZ which is $120NZ, could get cheaper ram off ebay( or a shop that does international shipping??) or maybe even get a 2 gig chip for $50NZ . If i buy another 2 gig chip same brand will that work as dual channel?
~ramble begin~
also i wanted to do some video encoding compressing do you think maybe downgrade the ram and gcard (i herd ati is better for that stuf? could get a 2900?) and no cooler and use the money to get a quad core 6600 or maybe even a phenom 9500 for $70 cheaper....nah ill just stick with the e2160 just found a tx2 on ebay for 50$ NZ (including shipping)..i can just get it latter~ramble end~
so i think what i have to decide between is 8800gt or 9600gt
4gig or 2 gig ram
possibley but probably not, upgrading to quadcore if i get the lower gcard and ram.
I agree with boonality. Instead of the 8800GT, get a 9600GT for half the cost. That way you have some extra dough for a better processor like a e8400 or since you're doing video editing work a q6600.
