Sounds to me like your PSU could be struggeling to deliver enough power.

The 6/pin & 8/pin power connectors on the 9800GX2 card, will light up either red or green, according to if the card is getting enough juice -or simply connected properly. Check your status indicators!

9800GX2 uses about 360W on it's own under full load. Then you have to take the rest of your system into account. My guess is that your system is banking on the max. of what your PSU can produce in wattage.

I'm well aware of the indicators on the back of your card.

The indicators I'm mentioning are located a different place. They are placed where you actually plug the two power connectors into the card from the power supply.

Open your cabinet case, turn on your system and check your light indicators on top of the graphic card, where you actually plug in your power to your card.

You're quite right, that it's wierd your system is running in the background. Check your cables to your monitor are plugged properly DVI and power, they could have accidentally fallen out while installing the card.
Maybe you've connected the DVI cable to the wrong connector on the graphics card, try the other one instead.

Eizo was on the money.

I recently bought this card, the 9800 GX2 and with only a 650W power supply, was struggling with this exact issue.

After 2 minutes of running the computer, the screen went black, yet everything was still running sweet.

So I had only 120 seconds to go to Google and type 9800Gx2 Problems, found this thread, and got an understanding of the issue.

Thought it might have been the CPU not keeping up the pace with the graphics card.

So I removed the power and data cables from one of the DVD's and now, its all fixed.

I too have precisely the same problem.

No DISPLAY!

I have a corsair 750w psu. Only hardrive and one DVD drive connected. Mobo is asus rampage, cpu E8500 core duo, 4gb DDR2 RAM

Looking inside the PC every harware aspect looks fine, all LEDs glow lik they should, none of them indicating any problem.

Monitor is a LCD 22" Samsung.

THis is a brand new computer, nothing is one it.

This is so frustrating. :(
