Here is my system:

Core i7 920
Gigabyte UD5
6 gigs G.Skill 1333
Coolermaster V8
Sapphire 4870x2

Right now I have my system at 3.8GHz. All I did was increase the Bclk to 183mhz, anything above that fails.

What settings do I need to get 4.0+ stable?

Please Help!

Careful just raising your bclock, if you have your memory on auto it will increase your ram speeds above spec.

Try this-
Disable turbo mode
Bclock-200
CPU clock-20x
Uncore-12x

Memory-2:6

Vcore 1.4
Vtt +200

All chips/mobo's vary when overclocking, use the settings I put up in my first post, they're for 4.0 and turn off all power saving features in the bios. I would suggest going to your motherboards website and seeing if they have a overclocking forums, that is the best way to learn to overclock a new mobo/cpu. I'm using EVGA's X58 and I'm sure it overclocks a lot different than your Gigabite x58.

It's not above spec, but you can't be running a 920 with a x36 multiplyer, so something is up=x I would suggest putting your settings back to default to prevent any damage.

Need to download real temp 2.9, it's for I7's. I have a feeling your temps are much higher than that with such a high vcore.

According RealTemp 2.90, my max was 90c...

I don't understand how my motherboard (ud5), is so much lower than this RealTemp program... How do you know which one is correct?

I can get stable 4.0 at around 1.36V, 1.5 is really high. do you have C0 or D0 stepping? It should say under the "revision" area in cpu-z.
