Not sure where to post this, but i recently bought a new computer (already built):

Sigma Orca Gaming Case
580W Hyper Type-M PSU
E8400 @ 3GHz CPU
Intel Stock CPU Fan
Asus P5N-D 750i MOBO
2GB PC6400 DDR2 800 Mushkin RAM
BFG 8800GT 512mb OC
250GB Hard Drive

HP 22" W2207H LCD Monitor

Standard speakers/mouse/keyboard
Windows Vista Home Premium

For a total of £830 including shipping.

What do you guys think of the price?

Furthermore is a stock fan OK with the temperatures of such a system or should i replace it with Zalman 9500?

Thanks
Dan.

You need more than 2gb of ram and a good aftermarket cpu cooler. Zalman 9500 is very good, but not the best. Everything else good as is. Not sure about exchange rate, but that rig should cost around $1200.

Stock fan is enough at stock. You should not run e8400 at stock. It's no good if not for overclocking.

I lose my warranty if I overclock.

Why is the e8400 no good at stock?

The reason many people recommend e8400 over less expensive duos, or even quads (q6600 cost less in some retailers, and always in stock) despite it being overpriced and often out of stock is because it overclocks easily over 4ghz. If you run it at stock, you're unnecessarily paying more for less.

Ah ok. Luckily the upgrade from E6750 to E8400 for my sysem was free though, I just had to pay slightly more for a better motherboard.

If everything is at stock is 2GB ram ok still?

No, programs will use just as much ram no matter what speed your cpu is. Get 4gb, ram are dirty cheap those days anyway.

Stock cooler is good enough for stock speed, naturally.

Ok I will do that.

You said it sould cost around $1200 does that price include the monitor as well?

Yes, that monitor is among the best parts of your system. But keep in mind, $1200 is price right now, and prices fall constantly. Also, it's only self-built cost, if you buy whole machine, it'll cost more. Labor is worth money.

1) E8400 is still a kick as* CPU @ stock...
2) you dont HAVE to overclock
3) stock cooler is fine if not overclocking.
4) that system is pretty decent for $1200
5) 2GIG of ram is planety for XP, but 4 would be nice and is cheap right now.

Cool, do you think I should overclock and void my warranty or is it not worth it?

...so $1200 = £600 which means i lost out on £230 :(

There's no way for them to tell if it's been oced or not. But yeah, you should be honest and tell them, so they can void your warranty. :na:

Btw, if you brought whole machine instead of building it, that's not bad.

lol.

Why is newegg so cheap?? Its a shame I dont think they deliver to UK.

I searched all of the components on overclockers.co.uk and it came to £840 :S

And yeah, i bought the system already built.

If i do overclock CPU and GPU, would the motherboard be good enough?

And million dollar question, how do i overclock :P

750i is good to about 1600mhz fsb, which is 3.6ghz for e8400, if I remember correctly.

There are guides in this forum. See stickied threads in Overclocking section.

Will i be able to include another 8800GT in SLI with such a system, or would I have to change the PSU or mobo?

750i is an SLI mobo. You can throw any other brand GT in it and have it run as long as the GPU/mem clocks match with the same BIOS. 2GB is plenty for XP but for Vista you want 4GB. This is how you overclock: http://www.tweakguides.com/TGTC.html

Cool, and the PSU is still ok?

Psu is fine. And clock don't have to match exactly. Neither do they need to have the same version bios. As long as it says 8800gt, it's fine.

I heard somewhere the PSU wouldnt be good enough, it doesnt show up here: http://www.slizone.com/object/slizone_build_psu.html

And if i did SLI would i need any more fans? I only have a stock CPU fan and one other case fan. (btw not going to overclock)

The GT's coolers vent hot air inside the case instead of outside, so it might be a good idea to get better case fans. If you don't overclock, the stock cpu cooler should be ok.

The psu you have now should be enough. PSU calculators tend to overestimate.

I'd have to say that while 45nm CPUs OC a bunch, they degrade much faster than 65nm because they can't handle too many electrons supplied by the extra voltages. Sure you can get it to 4ghz no prob, but how long will it stay that way>> I think that is a very important question to ask?

I've done my reasearch on those things, I was planning on getting one. They are really sensitive to voltage.

I found out i can mount a fan on the front of the case and it has air vents there.

Should the fan be push or pull the air?

Cause surely if the rear and front were both push nothing would happen :P

The front fan is intake. It should pull cool air into the case.
