I am looking at the Western Digital Caviar Black series because it has 2 processors and 32MB cache.

But I want to know which version i should get. I heard that the transfer rate is different between the different amounts of GB. So if anyone can tell me which gets the best transfer rate(mb/s).

My system.

If I recall correctly, the 640GB version comes out on top because it only uses 2 platters vs the 750 and 1000 which use 3.

The 500 and 750 use 250GB platters (2 and 3 of them respectively), and are slower.

The 640 and 1000 use 333GB platters (2 and 3 of them respectively), and are faster.

640 or 1000. The 1000 is faster (slightly) than the 640, but both beat the 500 and 750 by a pretty big margin.
