I would say yes because of the price and performance you would be getting.
But I think that others would say wait and see what the future, a few weeks, has in store.
Both nvidia and ATi have their new line of cards coming out and the performance and price should be reasonable.

G92 8800gts is $169.99 after MIR, but at $219.99 before MIR, it's only $10 less than that 9800gtx.

Hey Xanthos, I'll trade you my shiny 8800 GTS 640 for that 9800.  See, it's better because it has 128 more megabytes of RAM than the 9800... ;)  
And after that I'll sell you my beachfront property in Nebraska.

Yeah, if I had to choose a new video card right now, I would get the 8800GTS rather than the 9800GTX. The relatively small increase in performance does not justify the additional cost.

Its not worth it, this card averages a 2 % increase over a GTS(g92)

Dude, I'll trade him my 9800 PRO for it. Higher numbers are always better ya know, and I've got the "PRO" version (which outruns all the others, being the PRO edition of course). Oh, and I'll take the beachfront property in Nebraska too. That's gotta be some rare stuff, I've never even heard of beaches in Nebraska..........
