Listen to this... it's a strange and twisted tale so you may want to brace yourself first.

Anyway, I fried a motherboard because I get the brilliant idea of putting in a new stick of RAM while it's still plugged in. Tried resetting the BIOS, reseating everything, all that jazz. The board is broke and not coming back (so that's what the spark and smell meant???).

So I get a new board. Everything's working great for about a week. I notice the power supply seems awfully hot. Whatever I say, it works.

So I'm having a good 'ol time playing a video game and out of the blue there's this very strong smell (not the light smell from when I fried the MOB). The supply is now very hot and the computer turns off without warning. I wait for a bit, try turning the computer back on. I get nothing, completly dead, not even trying to turn on. F$#% is the first word out of my mouth. I have a power supply on hand, better quality than the other one, so I replace it. Everything turns on, fans spin, etc. F$#%# I say again. Why you ask? There's no display on the monitor...

I've tried troubleshooting the NEW motherboard that the old power supply MAY have fried when it died... I haven't tried resetting the BIOS yet. Is this even feasible? Frying a MOB causes damage to power supply which in turn fries the new MOB? I'm truly in computer hell and really don't want to buy a NEW NEW MOB.

Thanks!
