New Seagate 7200.12 HDs: very faint high pitch noise: normal?

Hey guys, I just got 3 new Seagate 7200.12 hard drives from ZipZoomFly.
SEAGATE Barracuda 7200.12 ST3500418AS 500GB SATA II 7200 RPM

I just noticed that each single drive makes a very faint high pitch noise when powered on (and idle). When I turn on the box, the high pitch seems to "rev up", starting from a low pitch then goes higher.

I can hear it when I learn towards the box, it's very faint, but even with the fans going - it is very noticeable with all 3 HDs combined.

Is this normal? Any word of a few hiccups in quality control? Or is this just a rare HD quirk that I was lucky enough to have.

Advice is appreciated, thanks!

  1. All mechanical hard drives make noise. Some more than others. The high pitch whine is probably coming from the 7200rpm motors.... I do not believe that this is abnormal for the drives that you got as the Seagate drives are a little noisy.
