Hey,
I'm configuring a 3-way SLI system with a q6700 quad core cpu and 3x 8800GT video cards in SLI. I was wondering how many watts I'd need for this to run for high performance gaming?
Thanks

700watts should cover it. But keep in mind 8800gt do not tri sli.

Also you didnt mention what motherboard you plan to use and the rest of the system components you want to power.

For 3way 8800GTX (least expensive 3way option at the moment) you'd want something along the lines of 850w. SLIzone's list of PSUs lists nothing under 1000watts for 3way 8800GTX for a fully loaded and OC'd high end system.

Okay - having to back-pedal a bit [:wr2:5]
It seems that 9800GTXs might be less expensive that 8800GTXs at the moment.
So 3way 9800GTXs might be the cheapest Tri-Sli option right now.

9600GTs have just a single SLI connector - not the double connector you need for Tri-Sli

Heh, double stuff connectors. I didn't realize there was 2 sli connectors for 3way-ing. Well thanks for the responses, definitely helped :).

I agree, 700watt to 850watt would/should be sufficient. Though the main thing to look at is the amp rating on the +12v rails. I would think at least 26-28amps.

????

I think you mean 40+ amps combined? You can't even run a single 8800GT safely with one 26-28amp rail
