Im running some bad stuff that was middle-to-high-end two years ago, socket 939 uhhh...anyway. I might want to play a little crysis, to see what everyone is talking about, and i want to play starcraft 2, and counterstrike source on full settings and warcraft 3 (my favorite) i will also watch tv on this machine and web browse. and write papers etc.

my build:
CPU: Q6600 will OC to 3.2? if possible with my coooler. is it possible?

cooling: ZALMAN CNPS9700 LED 110mm 2 Ball CPU Cooler

HDD: 250GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive x2 Raid 0, western digital (i only trust WD, half superstition (never had a WD fail on me yet), half tradition)

Case: LIAN LI PC-A70B Black Aluminum ATX Full Tower Computer Case

tv tuner: Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-1600 MCE 1183WB NSTC/ATSC/QAM/FM Tuner w/MCE Remote(White Box)PCI (i need a tv in college)

PSU: Antec TruePower Quattro TPQ-1000 ATX12V / EPS12V 1000W Power Supply (the 850 costs more after rebates and i WILL do the rebates and make 150+ back)

RAM: CORSAIR XMS2 DHX 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model TWIN2X4096-6400C4DHX

motherboard: EVGA 132-CK-NF78-A1 LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 780i SLI ATX Intel Motherboard

Videocard: EVGA 512-P3-N845-AR GeForce 8800GTS (G92) KO 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card x2 in SLI

OS: Vista ultimate retail (so i can upgrade becasue i bough oem vista for my crap computer and now i can resue, wish i bought retail :( )

cd drives: SAMSUNG 20X DVD±R DVD Burner with LightScribe Black SATA Model SH-S203N x2

2310 shipped, i think i can OC the proccesore pretyy god, the case has fantastic cooling.

i want to upgrade the ram and maybe another 2 9800's in the future, maybe a new processo but probably not. i just want a little head room, should i spend more on 9800gx2? or another better motherboard with DDR3? is it all based on what im willing to spend? most motherboards with ddr3 dont have 3 pci-e 2.0 slots, just 2 and a normal 1.0 slot. that totaly sucks. also do i need a nividia chipset to use SLI?

edit: id also like to overclock

First off, You don't need a 1000watt PSU. Antec is good, but something around 550-600watt is gonna do the job.
Second, The E8400 is a good choice, I bet you don't need 4 cores, unless you do video editing etc.
I wouldn't worry about DDR3 just yet. DDR2 1066 would do the job well, or stick with what you have posted here. The CPU cooler is good, and EVGA is a good choice.

Also don't forget about a monitor, 22" LCD's are priced well these days.

It's all down to what you're willing to spend! [:wr2:5]
For a possible 3way 9800GTX setup that PSU is about right. You could downsize to 850 for just a 2way SLI 9800GTX.
What monitor do you have that you need a 3way 9800GTX to support?
OS; Vista Home Premium 64bit OEM would save you a fair amount toward moving to a higher end CPU. It's also fine for the HTPC/TV stuff.
A single fast 750GB HD would probably be a better solution than 2x 250GB in Raid0.

I would agree if you plan to go with triple 9800s then the 1000 is about right. I never know why people always recommend the lowest PSU power to run a system. PSUs become less efficient as time goes by, so it's better to have too much to begin with than just enough. A good PSU is an important part of any high end build. I would either go with the E8400, Q9450, Q6700,Q6600. The 9300 has less cache, so it would be out in my book.

You can't 3way SLI the 8800GTS. Im sure the OP has a 2560 x 1600 monitor he needs to power.

I have a hard time with the "9800GTX is just OC'd 8800GTS" conspiracy theory since my main game is FSX. [:wr2:5]

CS Source is old. You can run it easily with a single card.

sorry, i pick a few games a stick to them but i would like to try new games out and not have them be choppy as hell. I tried playing BF2 and my computer ran it for a while and then it slowed down and totaly crashed. im running a 2.4 atholon 64 dual core, 2 gigs of ram, x1800xl radeon card. im afraid i wont be able to play like starcraft 2 and see the nice graphics. doesnt the 8000 series have no open gl 2.1? and why do ATI cards have direct x 10.1? should i buy them? they even have more stream processores? whats up with that?

They'll run fine, don't worry about it. A single g92 8800gts runs Crysis at "high" settings (not "highest") in 1208x1024 resolution at 50+ fps. It should thus run anything else just fine.

You can oc that 8800gts to 770mhz too. Mine's currently running at 780mhz. Interestingly enough, running at the same frequency, 8800gts outperforms 9800gtx. Go figure... :na:

9800gtx is for tri sli. 8800gts cannot tri sli.
