Does anyone have an idea when the 9900's are coming out and their specs? I've heard there using the new GT200 core.
Still several month away. There are competing rumors, one suggest g200 core, another suggesting g92. One is no more valid than the other at this point. It's just too early.
honestly nvidia is sucking the g80 g92 core dry...
the new series probably won't even have similar naming system because then it looks like radeon cards... so ... Idk but I imagine this is just another rehatched version of the g92
all i heard was that the 9900 r being released sometime july. i do think they will use the gt200 because ati is coming out with a monster of a card i keep hearing about, so they need a card to compete. if the use the gt200 u can expect spec like these (this is just my guess and rumors i keep hearing) if these were the real spec it would be a nice card. Most likely would need to wait around 3 months, it is too early if Nvidia can catch the time to compete with 4870; I guess Nvidia will be behind ATI's new series at least 2 months again.
ATI's 4870 card will have 480 SPs but 480/5=96 so it'll have about the same power as 96 nvidia SPs
That is not exactly correct, since the frequency of the shaders between the ATI cards and the nVidia cards are very different with the nVidia ones faster(9600GT has 1625MHz shaders, HD 3870 has them at 775MHz). The rumors also say we can expect twice the TMUs, so it isn't just getting a shader boost, but also a texture fill-rate boost, which is one weak area of the HD 3000 design. Sadly we aren't getting any more ROPs, but maybe the TMU boost is enough to help it gain back performance, we'll have to wait and see. I'm hoping for something that will crush the 8800GTX under it so that nVidia finally has to make something new.
sorry to disappoint you but the 38xx series had 16 TMUs and the 48xx has that doubled to 32 but even the 8800GT has 56 TMUs
for 48xx the tmus are set to 0.85 GHz

You cant compare one arch to another, otherwise why would any company ever change their arch? All react differently to its design. Dont be disappointed when the tmus are doubled and really help this card. Why does a 9600gt stand in with the 8800gt when it has far fewer shaders? Its the tmus, the shader clocks and the few tweaks from the mcm design and using a GDDR5 which has alot of potential

For unknown reasons, i'm more hyped up towards the 4800s than the 9900.
Probably because of the increase in the TMUs, solving the bottlenecking problem present in the 3870

Considering the 3870 was even close to the 8800GT with such a low amount of TMUs shows that it isn't about number, it's about how they are used in the architecture.
I don't think that 9900 is G200. More likely it's tweaked highend 9800.
If the g200 is really new architecture (as it seems to be), the naming can be allso chanced. There even was Nvidia press realase about chancing their gpu naming. The G200 series could be a fress start. the 8800-9800 is allready messed up, so that ordinary Mr Smith is out of the naming game completely.

It has to because 8900 GT was 8800 GT and so on... So people are expecting that trend to continue. One reason for 4800 hype is that we actually think that we know something of it. There is so little know about 9900 that it is easier of not be expecting too much. So many people were somewhat dissappointed to "new" 9800 GTX series card, that actually is not so bad GPU at all. It is actually very good GPU, but not what people were expecting it to be. Super 8800 GTX basher...

Oh gee, a demo by companies that are pushing their redundant physics processors. I wonder how it will be if they actually use cpu cores for physics processing only, like it does in games, as opposed to having it bogged down running graphics rendering in software mode without a gpu doing it.
That's nvidia, they update barely anything and name it the 9xxx series then they come up with a whole new gpu and name it the 9900's.
It's still not certain that the new 9900 will be based on g200. It's only a rumor at this point. A rival rumor has it that it will be based on g92 with increased memory bandwidth.
