Acer Aspire 6930 freezes when making a user backup

My Grandson Aser Aspire 6930 freezes, sometime after he goes to the internet, sometimes when tring to make a user backup with erecovery program. After it freezes you have to hold the power button down to shut it down. Then sometimes it will re-boot and sometimes I need to restore it to factory orginal with erecovery to get it to run again. Any suggestions

Any suggestions1) - Have Task Manager running - You might be able to get into it to see what resource is grabbing all the CPU cycles. When you click on it after the freeze, give it some time to respond !
2) - Take a look in Event Viewer for reported errors.
